À propos de Evanescence
Evanescence est un groupe de metal américain, originaire de Little Rock, dans l'Arkansas, formé en 1996 par la chanteuse Amy Lee (actuelle leader) et le musicien Ben Moody (ancien membre).
Après plusieurs albums indépendants, le groupe publie son premier album studio, Fallen, au label Wind-up Records en 2003. Fallen compte plus de 17 million d'exemplaires vendus à l'international et aide le groupe à remporter deux Grammy Awards sur sept nominations. Un an plus tard, Evanescence publie son premier album live, Anywhere but Home. En 2006, le groupe publie son deuxième album, The Open Door, qui compte 5 millions d'exemplaires vendus.
La formation du groupe a changé à de nombreuses reprises : David Hodges quittant en 2002, le cofondateur Moody en 2003 (en milieu de tournée), le bassiste Will Boyd en 2006, le guitariste John LeCompt et le batteur Rocky Gray en 2007. Annoncé en juin 2009, la formation du groupe revient à l'époque des enregistrements d'Evanescence, leur troisième album, publié le 11 octobre 2011. Il atteint la première place du Billboard 200 avec 127 000 exemplaires vendus.
Dans leur discographie, l'album Origin, ainsi que les différents EP, sont téléchargeables sur les réseaux pair à pair. Le groupe encourage ce type de téléchargements plutôt que l'achat, à des prix faramineux, de ses anciennes compositions aux enchères. Ben Moody, ex-guitariste du groupe, autorise, en fin 2005, le téléchargement gratuit et légal des deux premiers EP et de leur premier album Origin ainsi que quelques démos.
